Videos that are helping Danny (autistic child) increase his receptive and expressive language:

  • Word Window at www.wordwindow.com. This video teaches the ABC's in a fun way.  Danny loves it.  He repeats every single sound.

Program Review at Bridges4Kids - May, 2006.

Wordwindow is a program designed to encourage infants and toddlers to discover and take part in early speech. Through the use of vivid graphics, sounds, human faces, voices and short video clips, your child will be delighted by this remarkable combination of sights and sounds. I found this DVD to be like a cross between the sounds heard in the British children's show "The Teletubbies" and the whimsical visuals from "Sesame Street" - minus the puppets and suited characters. While the creators of this DVD do not claim to teach your child to speak, this DVD does manage to build a foundation of letters and sounds through the use of visual and oral stimulation. I would recommend this DVD to parents who are interested in early speech development in their children.

I heard back already from the parents of an apparently normal range developing 20 month old girl that she is usually unable to attend to her 'baby tapes' on television, but did stick with Wordwindow for almost 10 minutes...quite enchanted, they reported, with all the varying visuals.
Thanks,
Speech Therapist from Connecticut

On Feb. 27 I purchased your original Wordwindow video. My (son) has PDD and he really like(s) it. He was repeating the sounds of (the) letter(s as) he was listening... Thanks, Mom from Texas

A few months ago you sent me a copy of your DVD. I left it for parents to view and never thought much of it. However, recently, I started to use it with our Autistic kids (during ABA therapy). I must say that they are ALL hooked. Most have started to name the letters without prompts (including the names of the letters and the sounds). This is amazing! I am very impressed with the video and have passed on your info when parents ask for it. - Clinic Director from Georgia

Thank you for sending this. It is fascinating! - Speech Therapist from Michigan

I love it! I think this would be great to use with kindergartners who haven't learned their alphabet. Great for speech of course too. I may just purchase this dvd. Price is right. Parent friendly. Thanks for the tip and congratulations on marketing your own stuff. I love to see people doing that. - Speech Therapist from Texas

Great video! - Mom from Long Beach, California

We received your DVD and both of my children love it! My two-year-old son (who is receiving speech therapy) immediately began imitating/repeating every sound on the program. My daughter (who is 3-1/2 years old) finds the "silly" sounds hilarious to imitate. All in all, it is a very engaging DVD, already eliciting verbalizations from my son. Thank you for kindly sending one for us to try, prior to paying. May I be so bold as to ask for one to be sent to my son's speech pathologist? I told her about it at this morning's therapy session and she was very interested. Thank you much! - Mom from DeKalb, Illinois

Thank you for the opportunity to preview your dvd Wordwindow. I think it might fit into some of our library's collections. As I recall, you indicated you could give us several copies for free. I think we could use four more copies if that is possible. Thanks! - Audio-visual librarian from southern California

You gave my friend and I a copy of your DVD, Wordwindow, a few weeks ago in downtown SC. I wanted to let you know that my child, who is three, loves the DVD. My friend's baby, who is about 7 months, also loves it. My son has outgrown many of his videos and DVDs. He typically loses interest even when watching his favorites. He asks to watch your DVD over and over. I thought you'd like this feedback. Keep up the good work! - Mom from Santa Cruz, California

Thanks for sending me your ABC video. I think the video is full of wonderful examples of multimodal temporal and intensity covariation and yes, I would like to talk more about the potential for using your techniques for creating stimuli for our intersensory lab (I especially liked the bar graphs for "kitty" that reflected the timing and pitch of the sounds). - Research scientist from Miami, Florida

Here is the payment for the DVD. It was very generous of you to let us try it out first.
I have to admit it seemed strange to me at first but my son loves it. He is 28 months old but is speaking at a 15 month level due to Apraxia. The video keeps his interest and is getting him to experience the fun of trying out new sounds. The video definitely does as promised and I have already recommended it to some other parents of children with special needs.
Thanks for such a great product! - Mom from Pennsylvania

Your product is very impressive. I showed my 18 mo old the sample and he loved it. I would certainly let friends and co-workers know about the website. - Speech Therapist from California

Thank you so much for sending the DVD. My daughter really enjoys it and is saying almost all of the letters along with it. Even my 11 month old son has been trying to repeat the sounds too! Thank you! - Mom from Illinois

Review by School Library Journal, Dec. 2005.
This title is intended to encourage language development and intellectual growth in babies and toddlers, ages 9 months to 5 years, using a combination of sparkling computer graphics, animation, and live-action footage to introduce the letters of the alphabet. For example, with the letter A, the segment begins with brightly colored, sparkling strokes writing the letter on the screen. Next, the text letter A appears onscreen followed by a child making silly sounds to the accompaniment of the letter again being "written" on the screen. The silly sounds are included to encourage children to have fun with their voices. The child then narrates the sounds of the letter followed by colorful dots and three-dimensional shapes appearing and moving about the screen along with more glitter and sparkles and more silly sounds. Throughout the program, human vocals are synchronized with the movements of shapes and colors. Lastly, the letter A and the words "An" and "Ants" appear on the screen followed by live-action footage of ants scurrying about. The format may be too busy to hold the attention of some younger viewers and the silly sounds may be confusing when interspersed with the sounds of a particular letter. An additional purchase for public libraries.
